Foods That Help To Burn Fat

September 22, 2013 admin Nutrition

Most people know that they must limit their calories in order to successfully burn body fat and lose weight. What many people do not know is that eating certain types of foods will actually help your body burn fat, and including these foods in your diet will put you way a head of the curve when it comes to losing weight. Below I’ll list some of the best foods to eat for weight loss, as well as some foods you should definitely avoid.

I know, you were hoping chocolate cake would be the first food on the list sorry to disappoint you. Fibrous green vegetables like green beans, broccoli, and zucchini are very low in calories, high in fiber, and loaded with healthy micro-nutrients. There also quite toothsome and filling, especially considering how few calories they contain. If you are serious about losing weight fast fill half of your dinner plate with steamed or lightly sauteed green vegetables.

Lean Animal Proteins

There is a good reason most fat loss diets contain high amounts of lean protein like chicken, fish and bison. These meats have a high thermionic effect, which means that your body uses a lot of calories to digest them. Most foods that are high in fat or carbohydrates have a very low thermionic effect, making them inferior to protein in this respect. If green fibrous vegetables and lean animal proteins make up the bulk of your meal, with high carbohydrate foods like potatoes, rice, bread and pasta kept to a minimum, you will be much more likely to lose body fat.

Spicy Peppers

Hot peppers like jalapenos contain capsaicin, a substance that has been shown to elevate heart rate and metabolism. Add some diced peppers to stir fries, salads or side dishes and in addition to the delicious spicy flavor you will be revving up your calorie expenditure as well.

Green Tea

Green tea is rich in a chemical called EGCG, which increases the metabolism without speeding up the heart rate like caffeine. I like to brew a big pot of green tea in the morning and drink it throughout the day to take advantage of its many health benefits.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit has been shown to lower insulin and regulate blood sugar and metabolism. The fleshy white membranes between the fruit segments are rich in vitamins so be sure to eat them as well be sure to eat them as well.

Foods to Avoid

Incorporating all or some of these foods into your diet will improve your body’s fat burning ability but only if you avoid the kinds of foods that bring fat burning to a halt. The following foods will sabotage your fat burning efforts with just a couple bites, so keep them out of the kitchen and out of your mouth!

Sugary Foods

Cookies, cake, pie, doughnuts, muffins and other junk foods made with flour and sugar are the sworn enemies of fat loss. Avoid them at all costs.

Trans-Fatty Acids

Trans-fatty acids are altered fats used in commercial baking goods to keep the fat from melting at room temperature. These are unnatural foods, and are considered unsafe to consume by the FDA eat them at your own risk. Follow the link to read about the Fat Loss Factor program.
